Spotlight On: Foreland
Over the years, as my event planning business has grown and expanded, one of the highlights of my “job description” is the necessity (although also a pleasure) of learning about and experiencing new venues. Just as critical as growing your network, adding new spaces and regions to your repertoire ensures that your business/portfolio won’t get stagnant and that you’ll continue to have new offerings to potential clients.
When I started out and focused primarily on the Berkshires, my Flickr albums and form submissions were pretty much all about our (gorgeous) Gilded Age “cottages,” our rustic-glam (?? I guess…) barns and basically all-things-Berkshires. And as much as these places are all fantastic wedding venue options, we never really had many industrial/mill-type spaces unless you went farther north to venues like MASS MoCA and The Stationery Factory.
Then the Hudson-Catskills region hit the scene. What a refreshing game-changer to be able to offer a whole new aesthetic still within a less-than-an-hour, bucolic drive from the Berkshires! While there are now multiple options that fit this bill…all super-close to the Amtrak station (for you city dwellers!), the one that has captured my heart is Foreland.
This contemporary arts campus (a stunning mixed-used space boasting over 85,000 SF) is set on a beautiful waterfront property and is made up of three historic mills that just underwent a multi-million dollar renovation. Owned by a visionary arts advocate and managed by my talented friend, Jules, from The Revelry Cooperative, these buildings have everything you could ever need to pull off a wildly-successful event. There are interesting (large) pockets of space aplenty and the property is the perfect choice for weddings or corporate events alike. Whether your organization is looking for a main-stage space with ample breakout rooms or your wedding party is seeking some respite from a drunk uncle, Foreland has you covered.
There are several tiers of rental packages and “actually-useful” add-ons to round out your venue rental and nearby hotel rooms and house rentals to make your guest housing a snap. The food options are plentiful and inspiring in this region, and the area boasts a plethora of talented event vendors, from swanky rentals to ultra-hip floral designers.
I’m excited to share with you some images of this gorgeous industrial space, captured by the talented team at Maisie Snyder Photography.
