A Late Summer Wedding at The Mount
One of my favorite things about living in the Berkshires is the fact that we have a plethora of stunning wedding venues. From elegant barns to revitalized mills, stately mansions to Boho chic properties, if you can't find what you're looking for in the Berkshires, you'll be hard-pressed to find it anywhere else.
Hilary and Jonathan's wedding took place at one of our more grandiose estates--Edith Wharton's summer home, The Mount. One in a cluster of Gilded Age mansions across the small town of Lenox, this property boasts the most fantastic mansion, surrounded by acres and acres of amazing gardens and woodlands.
I first met Hil and Jon's family when I was working on Kathy and Rusty's wedding in 2015 and got to know the whole clan pretty well (both sets of parents AND the couple worked on this wedding) and I even planned Hilary's mom's wedding in Manhattan during a MAJOR snowstorm. I learned so much from this family along the way and really grew to love and respect them.
As an event designer (not just a wedding planner), one of my pet peeves is when you see the same exact wedding style done over and over again. Truly, it is so often the case that only the names change on the blog posts, as many planners find one style and/or color scheme and are fearful to veer too much away from that look (that's the difference between a wedding planner and a wedding designer...but that's a whole separate post!). This was definitely not the case with Jonathan and Hilary's wedding, and for that I am so thankful! Not only did they opt to use the entire property (ceremony in the flower garden, cocktails at the mansion, dinner/dancing in a sailcloth tent near the entrance and afterparty in the stables), but they also chose a different, richly-hued look for each part of the evening.
Take a look at these images, captured by Christopher Duggan Photography. Notice the different linens used throughout the evening...the different types of lighting and florals as well. Do you like how we mixed different looks for different parts of the party? Or do you prefer to showcase one wedding style?
